The card account management system (KKVS), also called the Card Account Management Module (CAM), is a central part of the closed-loop EMV card solution. It manages the 19-digit card PANs provided by Thales and keeps the referenced credit for each closed-loop EMV prepaid card. The KKVS is connected both to the transport operator's and association's merchandise management system and to the processing service of the transit payment service provider (transit PSP). Through these interfaces it receives the final fare settlements. Since the final fare is only fixed after the daily settlement is completed, the credit is debited and updated only at the end of the day. In addition, the KKVS defines minimum and maximum limits for the card balance. If, for example, a defined minimum balance of 5 euros is not met, the KKVS has the card blocked via a blacklist through the transit PSP. Further journeys are then only possible once the card has been topped up – at the transport operator's and association's service centre, at a sales partner, or online via the customer portal.
